Ben Wild Fan Q&A: Zungu’s Rangers career is over despite influence on UEFA investigation

The loan signing of Bongani Zungu continues to raise eyebrows with the Amiens midfielder yet to have a real impact at Rangers.
The 28-year-old still only has one Scottish Premiership start to his name and he is yet to really turn in a memorable performance.
After taking part in the ‘party 5’ scandal his Rangers future looked all but over but he has since been selected by Steven Gerrard.
Most notably he was on the pitch when Glen Kamara was allegedly racially abused by Ondrej Kudela.
He could have a role to play in any UEFA investigation as he appeared to hear what was said by the Slavia man.
However, Ibrox News editor Ben Wild disagrees with one Gers fan who claimed that if Zungu manages to help UEFA punish Slavia, then his transfer will have been a success.
The signing of Zungu was baffling from the start as he had to sit in isolation for two weeks after joining from Ligue 2 side Amiens. No one had heard of him and he brought an army of South African fans onto Rangers Twitter.
What was stranger was that Gerrard just didn’t play him for months. He made his debut in the 8-0 win over Hamilton Academical back in November which suggested to me that he wasn’t very good. This has been backed up by his underwhelming performances this season and Gerrard hasn’t even trusted him to start in some of the easier games in the league.
First and foremost, Zungu’s performances have been fairly disappointing and that is how he should be judged as a Rangers player. The fact that he may help us get justice for Kamara will be a mere footnote from his time as a Gers player.
He doesn’t offer us anything. No goals, no assists and he broke COVID rules to attend a party. He failed to impress at every turn and there is a good chance that he will simply be forgotten.
There is no chance Zungu stays beyond this season because he simply isn’t good enough to play for us. He’ll go down as a bad signing, and rightly so. But there is no denying that if he fights for us and Kamara during the racism case then he will be remembered in high regard by some.
