Rangers star Ryan Jack suffers injury setback on international duty
Rangers star Ryan Jack has withdrawn from the Scotland squad due to a calf injury, report the Daily Record.
Jack has been sidelined since the Dundee United match in February yet Scotland boss Steve Clarke still called him up.
However, after a conversation involving Jack, Rangers and Scotland assistant Steven Reid, it has been decided that the midfielder will withdraw.
The fact he was called up hinted that a comeback may be on the cards so this is no doubt a setback for the 29-year-old.
Blessing in disguise
Although the news that Jack is still injured appears to be troublesome this could actually end up working in our favour.
Going away with Scotland always suggested that he was being rushed back early.
We did that ourselves after he was first ruled out in January, as he only came back to make three starts before suffering another injury.
It is important we nurture his return this time round, and avoiding three games in six days for Scotland is a big relief.
He now has two weeks to work on his recuperation and getting a few minutes against Cove Rangers could be ideal.
It is a game we should win comfortably and that means Jack could be brought on in the closing stages, which should be low-intensity.
The rest of our current midfielders are all fit so there is no urgent need to rush Jack back.
Rangers have the league wrapped up but we could really benefit from Jack’s return in our bid to remain unbeaten and win the Scottish Cup.
