Michael Stewart blown away by Ryan Kent in Rangers draw v Celtic
Michael Stewart was left thrilled by the performance of Rangers winger Ryan Kent in the 1-1 draw against Celtic on Sunday afternoon.
The Bears attacker almost scored the winner for the Gers when smashing a volley goalbound which Scott Bain managed to claw away.
Stewart was amazed by the technique on show by Kent, labelling his effort as “incredible” as he watched the ball all the way onto his foot.
Speaking on BBC Sportscene on Sunday evening, Stewart was in awe of Kent as he nearly fired home the winner for the Bears once again at Parkhead.
“It’s a wonderful bit of skill,” he said.
“It’s great technique, it comes in here and he just drops it off and spins in behind. This is an incredible bit of technique, and it wasn’t an easy chance.
“He makes the goalkeeper work, you see the recognition of where the space is, he’s really exploited that gap and it’s a wonderful strike.”
What a winner this could have been.
Kent has smashed home a game-winning goal at Celtic Park before, but this would have been ever sweeter to rub more salt into the wound of the home side.
After snubbing the guard of honour before the game, it was down to the Bears to do the business on the pitch and there would have nothing better than this volley flying into the back of the net.
Kent was superb once again, but more because of his work ethic rather than the danger he created as he really stepped up to be counted as Celtic put some pressure on for once this season.
We will meet again after the international break when the Scottish Premiership splits, and Kent will get yet another chance to grab another Old Firm goal; he will be relishing that chance.
