Chris Sutton: Odsonne Edouard dived in Old Firm clash v Rangers
Chris Sutton has claimed Willie Collum was right to book Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard after he dived in the 1-1 draw against Rangers.
The Frenchman and others in the Bhoys dressing room believed it was a stonewall penalty after Borna Barisic went down wildly inside the box.
Sutton has silenced those claims, claiming that it was simulation and never deserving of a penalty as no contact was made by the Croatian.
Writing in his Daily Record column, Sutton slammed Edouard after he didn’t just finish the chance rather than going down under minimal pressure.
“Celtic would have won had Odsonne Edouard not been a half yard off his game again because he had opportunities to clinch three points,” he said.
“Incidentally, leave me out of the debate over the Edouard penalty kick and booking for simulation. It was not a penalty and it was simulation. The referee got it right.”
When Sutton swallows his own pride and admits that Celtic were in the wrong, that’s when you know that Edouard was in the wrong.
Not that need the former Celtic man to come to that conclusion.
It was clear that there was no contact between Barisic and the forward, but we certainly skipped a beat when he went to ground so recklessly in the opening half.
Sutton didn’t want to share his opinion too much as he clearly couldn’t admit that he was on the Bears’ side for the first time in a long while.
The power shift has changed dramatically in Glasgow, and it is time that everybody has to accept that before we lift the title.
