Billy Dodds names ‘outstanding’ Connor Goldson as his Rangers Player of the Year
Former Rangers star Billy Dodds thinks Connor Goldson has been the Gers best player this season.
Sportsound presenter Richard Gordon asked Dodds about Steven Davis and whether he deserves to be named as the player of the year.
The pundit praised Davis but then shone the spotlight on Connor Goldson, who he feels has been key to the defensive improvement Rangers have made this term.
He told BBC Sportsound, “I think Connor Goldson has been incredible, Goldson for me is a stalwart who plays every game.
“He has been outstanding, we talked about the nine goals that they’ve lost, that’s just an incredible record at any level of football.”
Strong competition
There are several players who should be considered for the Rangers player of the year award.
It is obvious to look at the defensive players as our record at the back has been absolutely brilliant, as Dodds alludes to.
Having not missed a minute of league action Goldson is the obvious candidate for the award, as the organisation that the £20,000 a week [Football Insider] star provides has been vital to the back four working as a unit.
However, we would have conceded a lot more if it wasn’t for Allan McGregor.
He backed up a superb Old Firm display at Ibrox in January with another top-quality performance at Parkhead on Sunday.
Considering the fact he is 39-years-old he has been magnificent throughout the campaign.
This could be his last season as a professional too and it would be fitting for him to retire with a player of the year award under his belt.
Special mention must also be made to Alfredo Morelos and Steven Davis.
They keep the team ticking and without them we are simply not the same team, and the former has popped up with crucial goals, such as his equaliser against Celtic.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton has tweeted his instant reaction to the Old Firm draw.
