Tam McManus: Celtic should have had penalty in 1-1 draw v Rangers

Tam McManus has claimed that Willie Collum should have handed Celtic a penalty in the 1-1 draw against Rangers on Sunday afternoon.

Odsonne Edouard went down under pressure from Borna Barisic in the first half of the Old Firm but was eventually booked for simulation.

There weren’t huge complaints from the home side, but McManus believes that it was a wild attempt from the Croatian in his own area.

Writing on his personal Twitter account during the clash, McManus did strangely claim that he could see either side of the argument.

“It’s a foul on Edouard for me,” he wrote.

“He has to hurdle a wild lunge so he’s impeded. Thus its a penalty in my opinion. But I can see it being argued both ways.”

Contentious.

We have to admit that our stomachs dropped as soon as Barisic went to ground to try and win the ball after Edouard surprisingly took a touch instead of shooting.

The Frenchman always causes big problems, and should never have had that much space inside our own box, especially when being behind.

Barisic did enough to put him off though, even if it was a wild attempt of a challenge.

The big word there is attempt, as there was nowhere near enough contact to bring Edouard down, especially in the manner that he did.

After messing up the chance to fire home, the Celtic forward was simply looking for a way out and winning his side a penalty would have taken the heat off his back.
