Journalist slams Scott Brown as Celtic captain bemoans controversy v Rangers

Sky Sports News journalist Andrew Dickson has blasted Scott Brown for his “laughable” claim that Celtic should have been award a penalty against Rangers on Sunday.

Alfredo Morelos’ 55th league goal for the Gers, and his first in the Old Firm derby, earned Steven Gerrard’s side a point at Parkhead this weekend.

However, the game was not without controversy when in the first half, Odsonne Edouard went down in the box after a sliding tackle from Borna Barisic made no contact with the Celtic forward.

Referee Willie Collum correctly booked Edouard for his dive, but, as quoted by Sky Sports, Celtic captain Brown wasn’t happy. He said: “The first half, we were exceptional. We could have had three or four and had a penalty denied as well. It’s a stonewaller.”

However, Sky Sports’ Dickson hit out at Brown for his comments after the Old Firm stalemate, but did pay credit to the ex-Scotland midfielder for showing support to Glen Kamara.

Writing on Twitter, Dickson said: “Laughable that Brown is claiming Celtic were denied a stonewall penalty in the first half. They might have been if Edouard hadn’t dived and it wasn’t given – but he did and therefore he was correctly booked for simulation. Credit for his support of Kamara.”

Absolutely no chance

Brown’s going to say that, let’s face it. And we can also be frank and admit that if it was the other way around, we would have lied between our teeth too.

There’s just no way that was a penalty.

Barisic didn’t touch Edouard, who decided that he was going to try and win a penalty otherwise he would have taken a shot at goal.

Edouard then seemed to lift up the leg that was nowhere near Barisic as he went down. It was an embarrassing dive and was an easy decision for Collum.

He refereed the game well on Sunday and it seems that any supposed controversy from the Old Firm is just being manufactured for a certain club to justify their failure to win at home.

Rangers were the victors on Sunday, really.

Our unbeaten run in the league has been preserved and Morelos’ first Old Firm goal was a joy to behold.

That’s enough for us going into the final fixtures after the international break.
