Billy Dodds wowed by Ryan Kent moment during Rangers v Celtic draw
Billy Dodds lauded Ryan Kent after a brilliant barnstorming run during the opening stages of Sunday’s Old Firm as Rangers and Celtic drew 1-1.
It was a quiet start to the game but a moment of magic from Kent brought the game to life before a goal apiece ensured a score draw at half-time.
After Kent slalomed his way through the Celtic defence in the opening minutes of the game Dodds praised the 24-year-old winger on BBC Sportsound [12:10, 21/03/21].
“He showed unbelievable pace and desire to get there,” he said.
“There’s just something about Ryan Kent, sometimes you can tell by a player just by the first thing he does in the game, he just drops a shoulder and hits a pass across the field early in the game and he really looks Rangers’ main danger so far.”
Keen for Kent magic
Kent is vital to the intensity of our attacks – without him on song we can sometimes appear lackadaisical and slow in the final third.
But when he feels confident he sets the tone and the rest follow.
The early minutes of the game were rather mellow and it really looked like two sides who had little to play for with the Premiership title already wrapped up for Steven Gerrard’s side and Celtic wallowing in second place.
He had a great five or so minutes as he threatened to wreak havoc on the Celtic side but too often Gers tried to spring their attacks from the right hand side of the pitch when the danger was down the left with Kent.
That inability to recognise this cost us as Mohamed Elyounoussi nodded the hosts ahead at Celtic Park after 23 minutes but Alfredo Morelos levelled the scores before half-time.
The hosts dominated much of the second period and Kent drifted out of proceedings as the score remained the same.
