‘We stand together’ – Union Bears support Kamara and Roofe
The Rangers fan group, The Union Bears, have today unveiled a banner to demonstrate their support to Glen Kamara and Kemar Roofe.
Kamara has claimed Onderj Kudela of Slavia Prague racially abused him on the pitch, whilst Roofe has disgustingly been targeted on social media. Rangers fans have responded to this by putting a banner on the gates of the Auchenhowie training facility. It reads, ‘We stand together – GK18 KR25’.
The Czech Republic champions have swiftly denied any allegations against their players. They released a statement on Twitter, denying any wrongdoing. Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has stuck by his squad members and publicly backed them in the media.
Enough is enough
There is no room for racism anywhere. It’s encouraging to see UEFA have launched their investigation, let’s just hope there are sufficient repercussions.
It’s no surprise to see the Rangers supporters react so swiftly to this. The club released a very strongly worded statement on Friday afternoon, stating their commitment to eradicating racism in football.
It’s been a difficult few days for the club after what’s been a fantastic season overall. Despite the fans not being inside Ibrox, or travelling away to watch Rangers at any point this season, their support is always felt strongly. This show of support from the Union Bears is class, and hopefully encourages the players knowing the fan base are behind them.
We’re so proud of what they’ve achieved this season. Let’s get behind the squad now as they’re going into a huge game tomorrow. The Old Firm derby has just become a lot more significant, despite having the title wrapped up.
It’s a chance for the boys to show their unity and put on a brave display for one another. Gerrard will be encouraging the team to go to Parkhead and take all three points home, and hopefully see out the season as invincibles.
In other Rangers news, Sky Sports have reported this update ahead of the Old Firm clash.
