Rod Stewart blasts ‘childish’ Celtic amid refusal to give Rangers guard of honour

Rod Stewart is ashamed at Celtic for refusing to give Rangers a guard of honour at Parkhead on Sunday.

The famous Celtic fan praised Rangers for their efforts this season and firmly believes they deserve recognition from the Bhoys, even if the teams are bitter rivals.

He made it clear that he wishes Steven Gerrard and his side well and holds no ill-feeling despite Celtic failing to complete ten in a row.

In an interview with the Daily Record, he said, “I’m appalled, why can’t we show dignity and sportsmanship or am I old fashioned?

“I agree with Brendan Rodgers: show class. Or, as Michelle Obama once said, ‘when they go low we go high’.

“Rangers were excellent this season and deserved the title, well done Steve and your team.

“And last but not least, what does this say to our children? My boys will be watching Sunday in there green and white and I’ll be a little embarrassed to explain it all.

“Please grow up everyone, life is too short for this childish behaviour.”

Touch of class

Stewart has been very magnanimous in his comments and we welcome the credit he gives Rangers.

When even Sutton has sided against Celtic you know something is up, as the pundit told the Daily Record there should be a guard of honour for Stevie G’s boys.

Rangers

We could not agree with Stewart and Sutton more, although we also couldn’t care whether Celtic give us one or not.

Few teams go to Celtic Park still unbeaten in March so our players and staff have been outstanding.

They deserve a rare show of appreciation, therefore, and Celtic should put aside the rivalry for once.

Instead, we will have to prove our class on the pitch by dominating Celtic.

Beating them is of course always sweet but would hold extra weight this time due to the invincible tag being on the line.
