Kris Boyd blown away by Steven Davis after Rangers deal confirmed
Kris Boyd has showered praise on Rangers midfielder Steven Davis after it was confirmed that he had signed a new contract at Ibrox.
The Northern Irish international has put pen-to-paper on another year at Auchenhowie after celebrating another Scottish Premiership title this month.
Boyd also praised Allan McGregor for his influence on the squad, with contract talks ongoing with the stopper in Glasgow.
Speaking on Sky Sports on Saturday afternoon, Boyd was thrilled by the news that the veteran will be sticking around at Ibrox for another year.
“In the build-up to Rangers being champions, Steven Davis and Allan McGregor were pivotal,” he said.
“They know what it takes to win leagues, to go the whole distance. I’m glad we’re going to be seeing Steven Davis around in Scottish football for another year at least.
“He has been unbelievable on the pitch.”
Nail on the head.
Boyd is spot on with this verdict, and he will know better than most having played with the midfield legend.
That is just how good Davis has been for the Bears, with this his second stint at Ibrox, something that has delivered success back to the right half of Glasgow this season.
Players such as James Tavernier and Alfredo Morelos frequently get the praise and headlines, but it is options such as Davis who continue to shine under-the-radar.
The reaction to this announcement on Saturday will have blown Davis away, and finally he has been given the huge praise that he deserves for his role in this success.
Steven Gerrard needs players who can do what he did for Liverpool, and he will be looking no further than Davis to fulfil that role in the future; he is in safe hands.
