Gary Lineker reacts to Slavia Prague statement after shocking Gers allegations

Gary Lineker has joined a growing number of people who doubt Slavia Prague’s version of events in the match against Rangers.

Glen Kamara accused Ondřej Kúdela of directing racist abuse at him during Thursday’s match and doubled down with a statement published by his solicitors on Friday.

Meanwhile, Slavia Prague have released a statement of their own denying all accusations of racism against their player – but Lineker is not buying it.

The BBC presenter raised doubt about the Czech club’s side of the story, responding with “hmmmm” and a thinking emoji.

Their statement also accused Kamara of assaulting Kúdela in the tunnel area after the match, and claimed Steven Gerrard witnessed the incident.

UEFA must act

Slavia Prague have decided not to cooperate and it seems a big section of the football community is against them, and rightly so.

While the allegations of racism may be difficult to prove without a witness, it will be easy to verify their accusations of assault against Kamara.

Rangers

There should be cameras in the tunnel area and at least a number of witnesses – including Gerrard as per the statement.

We must get to the bottom of this issue and UEFA must focus their attention on it.

They cannot sweep it under the rug and give Slavia Prague a slap on the wrists – if they do they will fail in their bid to root racism out of the game.

It is good to get Lineker’s support as it is important we all stand behind Kamara and Kemar Roofe, who was racially abused on social media after the match.

Gerrard and the club have responded in the correct manner, unlike Slavia Prague, and we expect the situation to be resolved by UEFA – as is their duty.
