Confirmed: Nathan Patterson doubtful for Rangers clash v Celtic

Rangers defender Nathan Patterson has been confirmed as a fresh doubt for the Old Firm clash against Celtic on Sunday afternoon.

The young Bears talent has endured a rollercoaster month, first breaking COVID-19 protocols, and then breaking into the first team.

James Tavernier remains injured for the foreseeable future at Ibrox, and Steven Gerrard could be without an out-and-out right back now.

Speaking to the media on Friday, as shared on the Gers official Twitter account, Gerrard confirmed that Patterson received a knock on Thursday.

“Nathan Patterson is a doubt after receiving a kick in the calf area yesterday,” he said.

“No other fresh injury news following last night.”

Big blow.

This is a selection dilemma that Gerrard is going to have to figure out, and he has to do it rather quickly with only 24 hours to go.

Leon Balogun will be the clear choice, but he will have to be much better than he was against Slavia Praha, getting his marching orders in the second half.

The Nigerian international was far too aggressive and late with his challenges and could have been sent off much sooner than he actually was.

Patterson has set the world alight with his brilliant performances, and it would be a real blow is he were to miss out in his first Old Firm.

The 19-year-old deserves this chance, and we are crossing our fingers that he can overcome this knock, something that the two-day break makes him a big doubt.
