Sutton: We’d be happy with a draw on Sunday

Chris Sutton left Ally McCoist stunned and then jubilant after admitting that he would be happy with a draw in the Old Firm clash between Celtic and Rangers on Sunday.

Rangers are still on for an Invincibles season and go to Celtic as champions.

Sutton has no expectations of a win for the home side. Asked on Scottish Football Extra (BT Sport, Friday, 6.30pm) what he thought would happen, Sutton said, “Oh blimey.

“The big motivation is to win a game against Rangers this season.

“This is one for Celtic to be pumped up about and put one on Rangers. I’d take a draw at the moment, just to stop Rangers doing the whitewash.”

Host Darrell Currie said, “I’ve never heard him say that before.”

Ally McCoist was stunned and said, “Did you say you’d be happy with a draw?”

Sutton replied, “If you were a Celtic player you wouldn’t want the humiliation of being pumped every game by your biggest rival.”

McCoist had the last word saying, “There’s no way we’d accept a draw in an Old Firm game. No way Rangers fans would accept that.”

How far have Celtic fallen?

Well, well, well. That’s what it’s come to this season.

While the shocking events from last night have left a very sour taste in the mouth, it’s now time to try to put it behind us until a thorough investigation is completed.

That won’t be easy for Glen Kamara but if any game can re-focus the Gers players it’s this one.

An Invincibles season is the reward and a whitewash against Celtic would be huge.

For Sutton to say he’d be happy for a draw against Rangers at Parkhead is incredible and shows just how far Celtic have fallen.

McCoist was momentarily stunned and then absolutely jubilant. And we’d imagine that would be the reaction from every Rangers fan listening.

Celtic fans will be horrified but Sutton, for once, was just telling it as it is.
