Ally McCoist delivers verdict on major talking point from Rangers v Slavia

Ally McCoist has delivered his verdict on Rangers’ Europa League defeat to Slavia Prague in a game that was littered with controversy.

The Gers lost 2-0 at Ibrox as they crashed out of the Europa League with one of the deciding factors being the red card issued to Kemar Roofe.

McCoist, speaking on TalkSPORT, said he has no problem with the result and insists Roofe was right to be sent off for his challenge on the Slavia keeper.

He said, “Listen, I’ll tell you right now boys. No problem with the result over the two games.

“Slavia Prague were the better team, I don’t think there’s any getting away from that. Good side by the way, they are not bad and they’re undefeated as well domestically.

“Obviously a couple of sending offs for Rangers last night. I don’t know if you’ve seen it boys, the goalkeeper took a really sore one. Roofe goes through and he doesn’t see the goalkeeper coming out. Oh man, right in the head, he was correctly ordered off for that.”

Roofe can’t have any complaints with this one.

It is a simply shocking challenge and even though he got something on the ball you can’t raise your feet that high.

We’ll not post the image of Ondrej Kolar’s injuries as it’s pretty grizzly but after seeing that, you can’t argue for anything other than a red card for Roofe.

The forward can expect an extended ban as his actions certainty fall under the ‘serious violent conduct’ category.

It’s one of those occasions where intent has nothing to do with it and even McCoist can’t defend the Gers forward.

He sounded like he was wincing just thinking about the challenge.

Accidents happen but there can be no complaints if Roofe receives a lengthy ban in the near future.

In other Rangers news, Slavia Prague released a cutting statement after last night’s game in which they accused Glen Kamara of assault.
