Exclusive: Alex McLeish left ‘amazed’ by Rangers v Slavia Praha

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish believes that Rangers are the favourites going into their Europa League clash with Slavia Praha on Thursday evening.

The Bears left the Czech Republic with a 1-1 draw last week, and have that all-important away goal to start the clash in Glasgow.

McLeish was ‘amazed’ by the fight and spirit on show in that first-leg, especially after the lacklustre start saw them go one goal behind.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I would say it’s always the away team if they come away with a draw.

“It always gives you a great chance to do the business at home, we know that a lot of teams have adapted to play away from home without fans. They could have been intimidated if there were a full house at Ibrox.

“The way Rangers are playing, I think they’ve evolved – I was amazed by how they came back in the first-leg, they looked quite indecisive at first.”

Rangers

The Gers will definitely fancy themselves as favourites bringing Praha back to Ibrox.

After nothing short of a shocking start last week, the resolve and resilience to come back into the clash was great to see from Steven Gerrard’s men.

It would have been easy to crumble after that early wonder-strike which would have boosted Slavia immediately, but the response was superb.

Gerrard will want a faster start this evening, and an early goal could all-but-seal a pass into the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
