Ben Wild Fan Q&A: Responding to your comments on Scott Wright
Every week we’ll be asking Rangers fans on our Facebook account for questions that will be answered by Ibrox News editor Ben Wild. You can join in by following the Rangers Insider Facebook account and watching out for weekly mailbag posts.
I did a piece last week on how Rangers spending money on Scott Wright in January was a bad move as the attacker has barely played for us since he joined.
My main argument was based around the fact that we could’ve had Wright for free in the summer and saved what may prove to be a small fee in a time where finances are far from secure.
I had plenty of responses to this particular piece.
First and foremost, thank you.

I received plenty of responses to my comment about Wright and the overwhelming feeling was that I was totally wrong.
That’s fine, it was and still is just my opinion and I can understand why plenty of fans felt this way.
The main argument from those fans was that Wright would be getting up to speed with our tactics and getting ready to make an impact next season as described in the comment below.
I’m afraid that doesn’t quite cut it for me.
One of my main points was that Wright was essentially brought in to cover the departing Jordan Jones, who wasn’t getting a game even when he wasn’t suspended. There is no doubt in my mind that Wright’s transfer could’ve waited until the summer and there are a few benefits to this. He would still be getting regular football at Aberdeen, something he currently isn’t getting and he looks unlikely to get it for the remainder of the season.
Especially with Kemar Roofe returning from injury, chances will be few and far between for the wide man. Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi, Roofe and probably even Scotty Arfield sit ahead of Wright in the pecking order. It makes sense to cover ourselves but we would need a ‘Liverpool like’ injury crisis for Wright to be needed on a regular basis. While he may be getting up to speed with our way of doing things, isn’t that what pre-season is for? I just can’t see why we spent money to have him now instead of waiting until the summer to have him for free. If he was a regular starter I’d get it, but he’s not so I don’t.
This is the last I’ll comment on Wright for now and let’s face it, it could be worse, I could be talking about the pointlessness of Jack Simpon’s transfer…
