Rangers clash v Celtic given go-ahead, confirmation in next 24 hours

Premiership champions Rangers will be playing Celtic on Sunday, according to Glasgow’s Go Radio.

The radio station reported on their official Twitter account on Wednesday evening that in the next 24 hours, an announcement is expected to be made to confirm the news.

The Scottish Sun has relayed the story, adding that the Old Firm will get the go-ahead from the Scottish Government after Rangers fans celebrated the club’s 55th league title earlier this month.

Much ado about nothing?

Rangers fans have no interest in going to Celtic Park for the Old Firm derby this weekend so we really don’t know why there’s been so much hoo-ha about whether it will be cancelled or not.

We’ve won the title already, fans have already celebrated and this weekend’s match is nothing but a dead-rubber tie between two old rivals.

Of course, we’ll celebrate madly if Steven Gerrard and his men win but there won’t be thousands of fans descending on Glasgow’s East End. It just won’t happen.

There’s been a lot said in the media about this weekend’s game but we’re glad that there’s some kind of clarity now.

There have been suggestions it will be called off in the matter of public safety but do the Government really thing that fans will risk the club getting in trouble for a match with little significance?

Rangers will be big favourites to win at Celtic Park. We’ve beaten them twice already this season.

No one went to celebrate those successes so why now?
