Masopust: Rangers goalkeeper McGregor is not ‘King of the jungle’
Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor cannot be viewed as the “king of the jungle”, according to Slavia Prague star Lukas Masopust.
Steven Gerrard’s men welcome the Czech champions to Ibrox on Thursday night for the second leg of their last-16 Europa League tie.
In the first leg in Prague last week, McGregor pulled off a stunning late save to deny Masopust a match-winning goal before the game ended 1-1.
Ahead of the second leg this week, Masopust talked down experienced Gers star McGregor, suggesting that he’s only human.
“We must not let ourselves think that he is the king of the jungle,” said the Slavia Prague midfielder, as quoted by Czech journalist Ondrej Zlamal on Twitter on Wednesday.
“We have to go to the match in peace, every goalkeeper can be scored [past] normally.”
McGregor: The King of Prague
It’s been almost a week but we’re still buzzing about McGregor’s save against Slavia Prague.
Was it the greatest save of all time? Not many goalkeepers have done anything near as good as that but the save itself will always be talked down by some because it was against Slavia Prague’s Masopust in the Europa League and not Brazil’s Pele in the World Cup.
It took something special for Slavia to beat McGregor last week.
The Rangers goalkeeper was rooted to the spot when Nicolae Stanciu scored a stunner from distance in the first leg. We don’t think any ‘keeper in the world would have stopped that.
We didn’t think any goalkeeper would be able to stop Masopust’s header too – it was destined to go into the back of the net.
But the way McGregor got himself down and clawed the ball into his grasp defied physics.
Has anyone else been able to get over it yet? We simply cannot.
In other Rangers news, the Government are set to confirm their stance on whether the Old Firm will take place on Sunday.
