Exclusive: Alex McLeish delighted with Rangers return of Kemar Roofe v Slavia Praha
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has expressed his delight over the return of Rangers forward Kemar Roofe for the Europa League clash against Slavia Praha.
The striker was on the bench for the first-leg in Prague and came off the bench for the final 10 minutes of the 1-1 draw.
McLeish believes that Roofe has scored some “spectacular” goals in the European journey this season, and offers the Bears great strength-in-depth.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “It’s a big boost.
“It gives us more options for the position upfront, which is exactly what made it tougher in the past couple of seasons when there wasn’t the competitive cover.
“We’ve missed that, and Roofe has proved a great signing this season. Not just the spectacular goals in Europe, he’s a busy bee around the box and he’s got the sniff for a goal.”
Roofe hasn’t endured the best injury record this season, but he has still managed to find the back of the net numerous times.
The 28-year-old has scored the same number of Scottish Premiership goals as Alfredo Morelos, despite starting eight fewer games this season.
Steven Gerrard will be wanting to get as far as possible in the Europa League this season, and this is a real opportunity to do just that.
Having the likes of Roofe and Ryan Jack back available will give us every chance of progressing, and the striker is a great option to bring off the bench if needed.
