Ben Wild Fan Q&A: Alfredo Morelos likely to leave Rangers this summer with Gerrard’s blessing

Rangers still have a lot left to achieve this season but that has not stopped supporters looking ahead to the summer transfer market.

With Champions League football on the horizon Steven Gerrard will be looking to add to his squad in order to compete with the elite-level sides in Europe’s most prestigious club tournament.

But it will not be quite as easy as that – he will also have to contend with the possibility that some of his stars might want to leave the club on a high and seek pastures new.

We asked you to submit questions for our new weekly mailbag feature for Ibrox News editor Ben Wild to answer.

One Gers fan queried the club’s impending summer transfer activities.

Rangers

Leaving

Our best players will be in demand. One name that keeps being mentioned as a potential name to leave is Glen Kamara. The talented midfielder has gone from strength to strength this season and, according to TEAMTalk, there are plenty of clubs chasing him. Benfica and Everton are just two of many clubs interested in the Finland international and if a decent bid comes in, I can easily see him leaving Ibrox.

Another name is Alfredo Morelos. We all know how close he came to leaving last summer and he has recently stated his desire to move south and play in the Premier League. He has proved to be a vital player once again in recent weeks but after a season with fewer goals than usual and a disciplinary record that continues to get worse, Gerrard may feel that now is the time to move on his striker.

In terms of players on loan… expect Bongani Zungu to depart for good while I have a hunch the club will cut ties with Jordan Jones and George Edmundson.

Rangers

Staying

James Tavernier and Connor Goldson will stay. They’re always linked with moves away but Rangers would find it so hard to replace them and the club would demand massive fees. Also at 29 and 28 respectively, it is hard to see a Premier League side splashing the clash on players who they won’t get much use out of. They’re safe.

Also, the newer players are probably here to stay. Kemar Roofe and Filip Helander have been brilliant this season and are hopefully at the start of their Ibrox careers.

Rangers

Signings

We already know Nnamdi Ofoborh will join the club in the summer which will provide the midfield with some cover. Other than that, Rangers will need to replace any players who leave but if they all stay then we probably won’t need to do that much business.

The only problem position for me is the goalkeeper. We all saw that save from Allan McGregor against Slavia and there is no doubt in my mind that he could carry on playing beyond this season. If he does call it quits though, Rangers will need to spend big to replace AMG as I’m not sure Jon McLaughlin is up to the task.

Funds are sure to be tight as a result of the ongoing pandemic so any substantial deals will rely on the club moving players on.

We want to hear from all Bears – if you have any questions on the topics discussed here or any other burning thoughts please comment them below and Ibrox News editor Ben Wild will answer them in the next mailbag.
