‘Bad terrain’ – Slavia ace takes bizarre swipe at Ibrox ahead of EL clash

Two members of Slavia Prague’s Rangers travelling party claim that the ‘bad terrain’ of Ibrox will help them pick up a win on Thursday evening.

Slavia take on Rangers in the second leg of their last 16 Europa League game after drawing last week’s first leg 1-1.

Midfielder Tomas Holes and assistant coach Zdeněk Houštecký both insist the Ibrox pitch is in poor condition and this can help the Czech side progress to the last eight.

Speaking to Czech outlet iDNES, Holes explained how the players have been watching plenty of videos of Rangers and how they noticed the quality of the Ibrox turf.

“What we saw from the video doesn’t look very good. It can be our advantage because we’ve played a lot of matches on bad terrain, Holes claimed.

Houštecký added, “So a month or three Sundays back, at the sessions, it was not in good condition. In their last league match against St. Mirren, it already looked better. We’ll see on the spot.”

The obvious thing Holes is missing here is that while his side may be used to playing on ‘bad terrain’, we play on that specific pitch most weeks.

This is a slight oversight on his part considering he’s claiming that his side will be better equipped to play at a different club’s home ground against said club.

While the pitch isn’t in the best condition, a lot of football has been played on it this season and many other clubs are having the same problem.

Look at Leeds down in the Premier League, they’ve already had to replace the Elland Road turf this season after it fell to pieces.

While we haven’t resorted to those drastic measures, we did manage to outplay and put five past Royal Antwerp on our ‘bad terrrain’ just a few weeks ago.

We have every chance of doing that again on Thursday night and Slavia will need more than confidence in a bad pitch to get through us and into the last eight.
