Andy Halliday says ex Rangers teammate is the best he's played with
Rangers hero Andy Halliday claims Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor is so good that he’s better than England’s number one Jordan Pickford.
McGregor has been in fantastic form this season for the Gers, playing a huge role in their 55th league title win.
Halliday thinks he’s the best he’s ever played with. Speaking to the Daily Record, he claimed that the 38-year-old shot-stopper is even better than Everton and England’s Pickford. He said: “I love McGregor to bits.
“I played with Jordan Pickford, and for me, he’s better than Jordan Pickford. And listen, Jordan Pickford’s a top goalie. He takes a lot of stick, but he’s England’s number one.
“But if I was picking my top eleven I’d have Greegsy ahead of him all day.”
Despite being 38 years of age, McGregor has put in possibly the best season of his career over the 2020/21 campaign. Rangers have gone undefeated in the Premiership and the Europa League.
McGregor has played 32 games across all competitions, conceding just 21 goals [WhoScored]. The Scot has kept a whopping 20 clean sheets as the Gers have been on a crazy run of form.
He has two massive fixtures coming up in the next few days. Steven Gerrard’s side host Slavia Prague in the round of 16 Europa League clash at Ibrox. Rangers have McGregor to thank, he made one of the saves of his career to keep the score at 1-1 in the dying seconds of the first leg.
After that? The small matter of an Old Firm derby at Parkhead. This one should be even sweeter, going there knowing we’re already champions. What a fantastic achievement it was to stop 10 in a row from happening.
This season has been incredible from start to finish, McGregor is a huge part of that. Hopefully, the big man gets what he deserves and signs a deal for next season. The hard graft has only just begun under Gerrard, and we’ll need McGregor next year to push on.
