Warren Feeney: Steven Davis has shown his class for Rangers this season
Steven Davis has been superb for Rangers this season and could continue playing for some time, says former Northern Ireland teammate Warren Feeney.
Feeney raved about the midfielder when speaking to the Daily Record, suggesting Davis shows no signs of slowing down.
He remarked that it seems the 36-year-old has been around forever, yet he remains professional and a key asset to have on the pitch.
Feeney said, “Steven Davis is just a machine. It seems as if he has been around for 100 years but he has shown his class.
“I don’t see why he can’t keep going. He has proved he is cool as ice and he looks after himself. And I don’t think there’s one person who has met him who would say anything different.
“He just keeps going, nothing fazes him. He just keeps going and going with the level of performance, which is exceptional to play at that level and international.
“It’s just his composure, he settles things down and keeps things simple. Nothing fazes him and he’s a great person off the pitch.”
Tying him down
Davis has been amazing this season considering his age, and his consistency is undoubtedly a key reason for our success.
Steven Gerrard often rotates his midfielders and attackers but Davis is never left out.
In fact, he has missed just two league games this term, the last of which came in early November.
It is essential we tie him down for at least another year.
He may be approaching the twilight of his career but as Feeney says he is performing well and arguably looks every bit as good as he was in his first spell with us.
There are few players with his know-how and experience at the club – only Allan McGregor can compare and his contract is up this summer too.
Davis putting pen to paper could be our most important business of the summer and that means sitting down with the midfielder has to be our number one priority.
