Report: Rangers keen on top-scoring striker Aaron Boupendza
Rangers are keen on striker Aaron Boupendza according to 90min.com, and they claim the forward is “in the form of his life”.
The Hatayspor striker is currently topping the goal-scoring charts in the Turkish Super Lig, with 18 goals in 28 appearances.
That’s seen Hatayspor get up to sixth in the league after being promoted in the summer.
Rangers face a lot of competition, though, with Arsenal, Southampton, Tottenham, Leicester, West Ham, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Wolves all said to be monitoring the player.
According to 90min.com, Arsenal superstar Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is such a fan that he has spoken to Arsenal about his talents.
The report says that Rangers are keen but the player has prioritised a move to the Premier League. Hatayspor are said to want £8.5m for the 24-year-old Gabon international.
Long shot
Boupendza spent four years at Bordeaux without breaking into the first team and has finally found his feet at Hatayspor.
They signed him for free last summer and after a standout season, they look like they could be ready to cash in for a huge profit.
There are lots of teams interested in the striker and Southampton are looking at him as a possible Danny Ings replacement, if they lose their striker.
That’s how highly rated he is and it looks like a move to the Premier League could be on the cards.
If not, Rangers could be the ideal step up for him.
Steven Gerrard can offer Champions League football and a team that’s on the up and making headlines.
Boupendza could well look at how Alfredo Morelos has put himself on the map at Gers and if he does ultimately dream of a Premier League move, Rangers could be the ideal first step.
It sounds like a long shot, though.
