QPR and Bristol City in race to sign Rangers youngster Josh McPake

Rangers youngster Josh McPake is wanted by Bristol City and QPR, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 19-year-old is currently on loan at English League Two club Harrogate Town and has impressed manager Simon Weaver, who said he was “on fire” in February.

And transfer expert O’Rourke claims his form has gained attention from the two English Championship clubs, who have reportedly been watching his recent games.

McPake has a year left on his contract at Ibrox and has just one Gers appearance to his name.

Time to sell?

McPake is yet to impress Steven Gerrard in his time at Auchenhowie but his form for Harrogate could change that.

He only has two goals in 14 games in his loan spell but since he arrived at Harrogate they have lost just six times.

However, stepping up to the Rangers first-team is a huge challenge.

To compare, another 19-year-old in Nathan Patterson is currently proving he has what it takes to compete in the Scottish premiership and in the Europa League.

There is a clear difference in the pair’s development, so selling McPake may be the best option.

That decision was made on Greg Docherty last summer, a player who also had to go out on loan after finding himself surplus to requirements under Stevie G.

His happiness [Daily Record] at his exit could encourage McPake to leave too.

We think that would be for the best since we are a team constantly looking to improve.

An ideal way to do that is signing young players with big potential, and it seems Gerrard is looking to do just that with the additions Scott Wright and Nnamdi Ofoborh in January.

McPake does not seem to fit that criteria, so should be sold.
