Nicola Sturgeon aims another dig at the Rangers supporters
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon appears to have taken a swipe at Rangers supporters again in the wake of their 55th title-winning celebrations.
Fans gathered outside Ibrox to celebrate with the players as they battered St Mirren 3-0, to all but seal a first title in 10 seasons.
SNP leader Sturgeon had made it clear that she was unhappy with the events. She has threatened to cancel the Old Firm derby amid fears similar scenes would follow. Sturgeon has now revealed that Covid cases have gone up in the last week.
As reported by the Daily Express, the 50-year-old also indicated she expects cases to go up further in the following week.
“In terms of the case numbers, we have seen an increase in the last week,” she said.
“As the Chief Medical Officer said last week there have been a small number of cases of people that were gathering as part of the football incident last weekend.
“We may see more of that given the incubation of the virus that may not have fully worked its way through yet.
“But we need to be really open-eyed about this. This is a virus, so at any time we open up and people start to come together there is greater opportunity for transmission.”
Same old
Not for the first time this week Rangers have been on the end of a dig from the SNP Chief.
We’ve had our fun now, this doesn’t need to be consistently dragged on. If you consider everything the club has been through in the past 10 seasons, you’d understand this title win is bigger than anything that’s come before.
The celebrations were inevitable, it’s happened, lets move on. There are big things for the club to be focussing on over the next seven days. Two massive fixtures that could take our incredible season up another level.
First up is Slavia Prague in the Europa League and then it’s Celtic in the Old Firm derby at Parkhead. Two competitions we’re undefeated in so far, we fancy us to keep that record up.
We’re in an excellent position to proceed further in the Europa League. Allan McGregor made sure of that with his world-class save in the dying moments. Even if it had gone to 2-1, we’d still fancy ourselves. The belief and spirit the team has shown this season has been outstanding. A win on Sunday would be the cherry on top.
In other Rangers news, QPR and Bristol City are looking to sign this Gers youngster.
