McLeish View: Rangers keeping Allan McGregor is like £40million signing – Exclusive
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has insisted that Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor is irreplaceable at Ibrox, even with a £40million signing.
The Bears veteran has been stealing all of the headlines in the past month with his efforts in the Scottish Premiership and the Europa League.
McLeish believes that the burden of the Gers can be too much for new signings, no matter how much the club may spend over the summer.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I feel like when you’ve got a goalkeeper like that, he’s integral to the whole strategy of the club and team.
“You could buy a £30million keeper and he’ll have teething problems, especially wearing the Rangers jersey for a start is sometimes a burden.
“Allan, keeping him there, it would be like signing a £40million goalkeeper. He’s easily been worth £40million”
McGregor is grabbing all of the headlines this month, and it is well deserved.
The Scottish veteran has been phenomenal throughout the entire season, but the defence and the free-flowing attack has taken most of the plaudits.
Steven Gerrard has already confirmed that discussions are underway with McGregor, and that deal should be completed for another season very soon.
The Bears could splash the cash on a new keeper, but there is seriously no need.
