Jordan Campbell claims Rangers duo Kamara and Barisic could bring in big money this summer

The Athletic’s Rangers reporter Jordan Campbell fears the club may have to sell some stars this summer to roll with the current times.

After obliterating the competition to secure their 55th title Gers will be in confident mood heading into next season and are an attractive proposition to potential signings with Champions League football on the horizon.

But Campbell claims on the Athletic website that Steven Gerrard may have to sell before he buys and name-checked two players who could bring in sizeable fees.

He said: “Rangers chose not to cash in on any of their assets last summer but that will likely have to change this year if they want to start building a self-sustainable business model based on player trading.

“How they manage that transition, in terms of the turnover and identifying replacements who represent value but also guarantee impact, will be a big test of the recruitment team in place.

“The major assets in the squad are all under long-term contracts. Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Borna Barisic, Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara are secured but Barisic and Kamara are expected to play at the European Championship finals this summer for Croatia and Finland respectively, which could inflate their valuations.”

Could Kamara and Barisic really leave?

As Campbell mentions they have the chance to significantly bolster their burgeoning reputations this summer and clubs will be casting their watchful eye over the Gers duo.

The circumstances surrounding both are wholly different.

Barisic turns 29 later this year and he will know he is entering the last chance saloon for a lucrative move as his advancing years will start to count against him.

Meanwhile Kamara is 25-years-old and is yet to reach his prime so unlike Barisic time is not of the essence but his displays this season will have piqued the interest of elite-level clubs that can offer bumper pay packets that cannot be handed out at Ibrox just yet.

If either, or both, churn out some standout displays at this summer’s European Championships then do not be surprised to see the Gers hierarchy cash in.

They have both been at the club for a few years and this is the nature of the beast – players will come and go.

As long as the money is reinvested and Gerrard’s targets are brought in we will move on.
