Tam McManus: Rangers & Celtic statements have come too late ahead of Old Firm

Tam McManus has labelled any fans who could gather outside Parkhead for the Old Firm between Rangers and Celtic as “Idiots.”

Nicola Sturgeon has reacted to statements released by both clubs, claiming they must do more to discourage anyone from gathering in Glasgow.

McManus believes this initiative has come too late, and that the clubs have done everything they can and it is now down to the public to follow those rules.

Speaking to PLZ Soccers’ The Football Show on Monday, McManus claimed that neither Old Firm clubs can be blamed for what could happen.

“Idiots,” he said.

“I think that it’s a little bit too late, it should have happened a couple of weeks ago, a combination of both clubs to tell the fans to stay away.

“Now, passing the message is strong from the government, Rangers and Celtic. Do not come to the game, the clubs have done everything they can now.”

Rangers

Sturgeon and the government have consistently blamed the likes of Rangers, but they were informed of the possibilities before crowds gathered outside Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard revealed that they were in conversations consistently, so they had time to place the authorities around the ground to avoid this.

At the end of the day, this is nothing to do with the clubs, it is the fans who make up their own minds and gather if they want too.

Celtic have placed security measures around Parkhead, and that should be enough.

There are being mountains made out of a molehill, and there should be no worries going into this one; the main business is on the pitch.
