‘I talked to Ianis…’ – Stanciu shares what he said to Hagi after EL draw with Rangers
Slavia Prague hitman Nicușor Stanciu has explained what he said to Ianis Hagi after his side drew 1-1 with Rangers last week.
Stanciu opened the scoring in Prague with a great finish before Filip Helander scored a leveller that was assisted by Hagi.
The two Romanians shared a moment after the game where they had a brief chat and speaking to DigiSport, Stanciu explained what was said.
“It was something special. After the draw, I talked to Ianis. We were both happy. It was a nice match, they have a very good team, but we will see on Thursday that it goes on.
“We congratulated each other. I wanted him not to care, but it happened. I am happy when we are in the Europa League, both me and him. It’s good for Romania, that we play at this level.
“I congratulated him on winning the championship in Scotland. And I’m about to take the title here. It is important for Romanian football that other Romanians win titles in foreign countries ”
Both players had an impact on last week’s game and many in Romania will be hoping for a repeat performance this week.
From the sounds of it, Stanciu didn’t want Hagi to say anything to him after the game though it isn’t clear why this is.
Some players won’t acknowledge opposition players until they’re off the pitch even when the game isn’t being played so maybe that sentiment was in Stanciu’s mind.
We aren’t surprised Hagi was happy after the game as he played very well and got the vital assist for an away goal that could prove to be massive in the second leg.
It is also pleasant to hear Stanciu congratulate us on our 55 win though we hope he isn’t smiling on Thursday night.
He looks like he’ll be the man we need to keep quiet if we are to progress and we can only hope Hagi may have some insider knowledge about how to slow down his international teammate.
