Exclusive: Alex McLeish casts doubt on Steven Gerrard leaving Rangers for Liverpool

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has cast doubt over the chances of Steven Gerrard leaving Rangers to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool after their recent struggles.

The Bears boss has consistently been linked with a switch back to Anfield but shut down those rumours in recent interviews after sealing the Scottish Premiership.

McLeish believes that the Reds will stick with Klopp, especially after he distanced himself from the Germany job that Joachim Low will be leaving after EURO 2021.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I don’t see Klopp going anywhere soon, he has done a magnificent job at Liverpool.

“He has been a top, top manager. It would surprise me if he left and he has even ruled himself out of the German job.

“Gerrard, if he keeps this winning streak up with Rangers will certainly be a contender. You never know, I think Stevie will want to dispel the Liverpool chat and concentrate on his Rangers career and I think that is the best way to do it.

“He’s a humble guy. He’s not going to be shouting from the rooftops saying he wants to leave.”

Stick with Klopp.

Liverpool will not be in a rush to cut ties with the German who has delivered them the Premier League and the Champions League since he arrived.

Gerrard will want to add a good Champions League run to his own CV next season, and that is after he could bring the Europa League home in this campaign.

There will always be links between the two, but it is important that no one gets carried away and think that this will bring forward the inevitable.
