Derek Ferguson urges Rangers to secure future of Allan McGregor

Derek Ferguson has urged Rangers to secure the future of Allan McGregor with his contract set to expire at the end of this season.

Steven Gerrard has already shared that discussions are underway between the two parties, but nothing is yet to be signed or confirmed.

Ferguson believes that the veteran stopper is irreplaceable in this current form, especially after that save against Slavia Praha last week.

RangersSpeaking on the Blues Brothers Podcast on YouTube, Ferguson believes that there is nobody who could replace McGregor in this current form.

“Look at his interview,” he said.

“Do you think Allan McGregor will be hard to deal with? Not at all. We shouldn’t be saying this but give him what he wants.

“You don’t [replace him], there’s nobody better.”

The discussions are underway and we expect a new deal to be confirmed sooner rather than later, and it would be the perfect news.

McGregor has been one of the most reliable players in this entire squad, and he has had to make numerous saves despite what our defensive record states.

Having conceded so few goals this season, it would be easy to say that McGregor has had nothing to do, but in recent months, he has been phenomenal.

Ferguson has often claimed that Andy Goram is the best he has ever seen in Glasgow, and he finally admitted that McGregor is on that level and is going down in history.

It is going to be an amazing end to this year with the title celebrations coming, and seeing McGregor sign on that dotted line will make it even better.
