Rangers loanee Jordan Jones sends Twitter message after Sunderland injury

Rangers winger Jordan Jones has endured a rollercoaster year in his career at Ibrox, to say the least.

The Northern Ireland international was one of the first players to break COVID-19 protocols and was punished accordingly by the SFA and the club.

Steven Gerrard was blunt with his response, which ended in Jones making the loan switch to League One club Sunderland in January.

Sunderland are in the EFL Trophy final at Wembley today, but Jones will be absent after failing a late fitness test with an injury problem.

The Bears loanee has taken to his personal Twitter account on Sunday, claiming he is “gutted” to be missing the occasion for the Mackems.

“Gutted beyond words to be missing this but here supporting the boys and can’t wait till we bring this trophy home,” he said. “Haway the lads.”

Based on the responses, it appears as though Jones has quickly become a fan favourite south of the border, as he looks to rebuild his career.

With the Gers tasting success without him, this may be a destination he remains in with a permanent move once the season is done.

Rangers

Jones can all-but-wave goodbye to his Ibrox career.

He may have enjoyed a successful start at Sunderland, with his goal at Portsmouth last week one of the highlights, but he has been given far too many chances.

We all remember that red card in the 2-0 defeat against Celtic a couple of years ago, and that was after being given yet another chance to revive his career in Glasgow.

There are only so many olive branches you can extend, and pushing for a permanent switch to Sunderland may be his best option.
