Robbie Savage & Chris Sutton hit back at praise for Rangers’ Allan McGregor

Chris Sutton and Robbie Savage have hit back at claims that Allan McGregor’s save for Rangers against Slavia Praha was the best save in history.

Darrell Currie claimed it was one of the greatest saves he had ever seen, even comparing it to Gordon Banks against Pele.

Sutton and Savage did agree that it was a brilliant save, but nowhere near enough to be placed in the top categories of goalkeeping.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Sutton claimed it was “embarrassing” despite the great efforts of McGregor in between the sticks.

“Great save but embarrassing stuff from Darrell Currie and Jules Breach to suggest it was better than Gordon Banks against Pele,” he wrote.

Savage agreed with Sutton on BT Sport and claimed that Currie should have been removed from the live coverage for his words.

“I tell you what, what a ridiculous statement that is,” he said.

“Wow. For that statement, you should walk off set.”

Bitter Sutton strikes again.

There is nothing better than watching Sutton have to sit through this season of torture for him and Celtic as the Bears continue to gather their plaudits.

McGregor has been phenomenal this season, and he is continuing that into the Europa League with his save potentially sending them into the quarter-finals.

The save may not be up there with the very, very best, but in terms of the context of the match and the manner of the save, it has to be discussed and praised.

Don’t worry Chris, there isn’t long left in the season, unfortunately for you, there are still two trophies to bring back to Ibrox.
