McLeish Exclusive: Rangers could have held behind-the-scenes talks with Gerrard
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has claimed that Rangers could have already held behind-the-scenes contract talks with Steven Gerrard after sealing title 55.
The Bears still have the Europa League to play for and could finish the Scottish Premiership season as invincibles before lifting the title.
McLeish believes that Gerrard could already have been asked to extend his stay at Ibrox despite having three more years on his current deal.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I don’t know if they’ve already asked him that.
“Maybe he has said let’s keep things the way they are. There are private things going on behind-the-scenes, it could be that they have asked him to extend.
“Whether Stevie said that he’s happy to talk to them, that would probably come out. If not, then they will keep carrying on and not get carried away.”
After bringing success back to Ibrox, Gerrard has been consistently linked with a move back to Liverpool to take the place of Jurgen Klopp.
The Gers boss shut down those rumours brilliantly this week, claiming that the Anfield faithful don’t want him in charge, and currently want the German.
Gerrard is well-and-truly concentrating on bringing more success to Auchenhowie, and adding the Europa League to this seasons’ haul would be sensational.
Add to that the possibility of Champions League football next season, and the good times are coming back to Ibrox.
