Alex McLeish lifts lid on Richard Gough talks amid Rangers fan trouble

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has lifted the lid on talks with Richard Gough over the celebrations after Rangers sealed the Scottish Premiership.

Gough has claimed that the Bears held discussions with the authorities over the possibility of fans gathering outside Ibrox, so they knew what could happen.

McLeish has demanded some explanations, after the Scottish Government and the likes of Nicola Sturgeon slamming the Gers for their response.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, I’m dropping the name here but I had a chat with Richard Gough the other day and apparently it was discussed with the authorities and the police, Police Scotland or whatever.

“So the reaction, the backlash, it seems as though there should be some explanations, you know, in terms of Rangers collaborating with the people who matter in terms of knowing that there was going to be the possibility of people on the streets.

“So I wasn’t in on the talks but this is what we’ve heard and by all accounts, one of the Rangers directors has done a lot to kind of verify that.”

The backlash still continues around Ibrox, and could still have consequences.

There have been big suggestions that the Old Firm with Celtic could be cancelled next week amid concerns over fans gathering once again, but there is enough time to sort that out.

Gough has shared that the Bears were in contact with the authorities beforehand, but they were overpowered by the fans with the lack of preparation shocking.

There needs to be something in place for the Old Firm, and if the crowd is prevented from gathering before it even starts, that should go ahead as normal.
