Alan Rough: Allan McGregor save could send Rangers past Slavia Praha in Europa League

Alan Rough has claimed that Allan McGregor’s last-gasp save against Slavia Praha could send Rangers into the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

The Bears returned to Glasgow from Prague with an away goal in a 1-1 draw last night and will be favourites at Ibrox next week.

Rough labelled the save from McGregor as “unbelievable” and something which could win the tie in the end for the Light Blues.

Speaking on PLZ Soccers’ The Football Show on Friday, Rough was in awe of the efforts of McGregor last night in the Czech Republic.

“That Allan McGregor save at the end of the match is just unbelievable,” he said.

“It’s a save that goalkeepers dream of making, in particular a crucial save. I’ve spoken about it numerous times, lots of keepers make saves, but he makes the big ones.

“That could be the save that gets them through to the next round, I think the tie is still open, I think both of them won’t want to sit, I think we’re in for a really exciting second leg.”

This save could definitely make all of the difference.

An away goal is vital, and it requires Slavia Praha to score at least once when they come to Ibrox next Thursday, something that could have changed.

Should that header have crept past McGregor, Praha would have been able to sit deep and play for a goalless draw which could have frustrated Steven Gerrard’s men.

An early goal for the Bears will put all of the pressure on the away side, who have already admitted their fears over the state of the pitch.

McGregor is the unsung hero this season, but he has been the main man today after a pulsating first-leg of European action.
