Dave King expects there to be a lot of movement in and out of Rangers this summer
Rangers have only just been crowned champions but major shareholder Dave King is already preparing for next season.
In particular, he has focused on the upcoming transfer window and predicts a summer of change ahead for the Gers.
The club kept onto valuable assets such as Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent last year despite significant interest in the pair.
However, ex-chairman King believes Gerrard will look to freshen things up by getting rid of some assets ahead of our first Champions League campaign since the 2010/11 season.
As quoted by The Herald, King said, “If I look at the squad, and with my historical knowledge of what the board position is likely to be, I would be very surprised if there wasn’t some player trading during the summer.
“I think the squad we have got at the moment needs to be changed and needs to be improved and there is no point in not moving assets on because you end up with a bloated squad and bloated squads are never happy squads.
“I think Steven understands that so I would be very surprised if there is not some recycling of assets to bring in different qualities and different levels of players.”
What can we expect?
King believes a lot of Gers players will leave in the close season and we hope that does not imply key players are on the way out.
After all, there has never been a better time to play for Rangers.
We are champions, have a brilliant young manager, and will be able to offer our players Champions League football.
The good thing is that makes us an attractive proposition for potential recruits, too.
However, success also breeds interest and it is possible the likes of Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo will be looked at this summer, along with Morelos and Kent.
We hope the club will stand firm and keep the senior players at the club.
We have the title win under our belt but we cannot stand still – we must instead add to the nucleus of the squad with exciting young talent – Scott Wright, Jack Simpson and Nnamdi Ofoborh fit that criteria.
Signings such as Kemar Roofe last summer also took us to a new level.
We hope and expect to see more transfer activity like that, and are a little concerned that King is so eager to move bodies out.
In other Rangers news, two key Gers players will miss the first leg against Slavia Prague on Thursday.
