Ally McCoist delivers verdict on ‘dangerous’ Gers tie v Slavia Prague

talkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist believes that Rangers “have a chance” of getting through their “dangerous” Round of 16 tie against Slavia Prague.

The first leg plays out in the Czech Republic tonight before the return leg at Ibrox next Thursday.

Talking about the game on the talkSPORT Breakfast show (Thursday, 6am), host Alan Brazil said it would be tough for Rangers.

“Oh honestly, I don’t disagree,” McCoist said. “I’ve watched this Slavia Prague side, I don’t think Leicester were at full strength in their home game.

“That said, I’ve watched a bit of Slavia Prague, I’ve been working on this tournament, and they ain’t bad.

“You know something? Over the two legs, I think Rangers have got a chance but it’s a tough game.

“I’m working at the Rangers game this evening so I’m going to have everything crossed. It’s a dangerous tie.”

Rangers

Tough tie but winnable

This is a step up for Rangers but we’ve proved that we can beat big-name teams in Europe already.

With the Premiership already won and no league fixtures until the Old Firm clash a week on Sunday, Steven Gerrard and our Gers heroes can focus exclusively on Slavia Prague.

The first test will be getting their minds back in the game after the wild celebrations over the weekend. That won’t be easy after an emotional weekend but the players will know how big these games are.

And we think that Rangers can make it a lot easier for themselves by coming back with something from the game tonight.

One thing we have to do is shore up a defence that was uncharacteristically loose in the double-header against Antwerp.

We know that we’ve got the players to score against anyone and a 1-1 result later today would be a fantastic springboard for the second leg at Ibrox.

Yes, it’s a dangerous tie but these are the games that we’ve yearned for over the past decade.

It’s time to enjoy them and have faith in this brilliant Rangers side.
