Slavia receive fan boost ahead of Rangers EL clash
Slavia Prague will be able to welcome a small section of fans to their stadium to watch Thursday’s Europa League clash with Rangers.
The club have invited doctors and paramedics who have Slavia season tickets to watch their game against Rangers to say thank you for their work during the pandemic.
Slavia President Jaroslav Tvrdik took to social media to announce the news, which comes after the club were heavily criticised for inviting politicians to watch their home game against Leicester in the previous round.
He said, “In cooperation with partners and sponsors of the club, would like to invite guests from the ranks of doctors, paramedics and employees of medical facilities of the Czech Republic to the eight-finals of the UEFA European League.
“Thank you for saving our lives.”
This is great to see from Slavia though it will no doubt boost their team’s performance and provide the club with a positive bit of PR.
This PR is much needed by the sounds of it as Czech outlet iDNES reports on how the club were criticised for letting politicians and public figures back into their stadium before fans.
This will be a rare occasion for the Gers to play in front of fans this term though we secured a win against Standard Liege in the group stage when their fans were allowed in.
Slavia pose a different challenge though and even a small number of fans will no doubt give the players some extra motivation to perform.
The Czech side secured a vital draw against Leicester in front of politicians so you have to wonder what they’ll be able to do with some of their actual fans cheering them on.
We still believe we’ll go into the game of favourites, we just have to block out the noise and play as we did against Antwerp.
Though we do hope the defence is slightly stronger this time around.
In other Rangers news, Celtic have renewed the Old Firm trademark this month despite distancing themselves from the saying.
