Rangers must let Zungu go on international duty this month

South Africa manager Molefi Ntseki has explained how Rangers will decide if Bongani Zungu is allowed to meet up with his international teammates this month.

Due to UK COVID rules regarding ‘red zone’ countries, Zungu would have to isolate for 10 days on his return to the UK if he did join up with Bafana Bafana.

The decision seems as if it lies with Rangers if Ntseki’s recent comments are anything to go by.

Ntseki is quoted by the Scottish Sun as saying, “That decision will be taken by the club and we will have to negotiate with them regarding any plans.”

We believe there is only one course of action the club can take and that is to let Zungu go on international duty.

There are a few reasons for this.

The first and most important reason is simply that we don’t need him.

It has been proved on several occasions this season that Zungu simply isn’t good enough to play for Rangers despite him being an international star.

He still only has four Rangers starts to his name with two of those coming in the League Cup so it is unlikely he will be needed in the latter stages of the Europa League.

Of course, Zungu did make a brief appearance at the end of our second leg tie against Royal Antwerp but we could’ve easily done without him.

We have plenty of quality midfielders and our schedule really isn’t that hectic for the rest of the season which limits the chance of one of our key men picking up an injury.

We just can’t see a situation where Gerrard runs out of midfielders and has no choice to play Zungu… touch wood.

That would take an injury crisis of epic proportions as Zungu is comfortably sat at the bottom of the pecking order when it comes to midfielders.

We wouldn’t lose anything by letting Zungu join up with his South Africa teammates, if anything he’ll get a bit of match fitness.

Ntseki claims Rangers have a decision to make but to us, it seems a fairly straightforward and logical decision.

In other Rangers, the Gers have been handed Europa League progression on a silver-plate.
