John Hartson believes Celtic should not offer Rangers a guard of honour

It would be ridiculous for Rangers to receive a guard of honour from Celtic when the sides meet in a couple of weeks, according to John Hartson.

His argument is born from the fact the Gers did not do the same for their rivals over the last few years.

Hartson suggests there is a mutual respect between the two sides and a guard of honour would be an unnecessary addition.

As quoted by the Daily Record, he said: “Why would you start it now?

“Celtic don’t need to be told that Rangers have deserved to win the league. The players will appreciate just how well they have played.

“The guard of honour thing is just a nonsense, really.

“They are rivals and there has to be mutual respect, but you can have that without needing to go down the guard of honour road.

“What Rangers have achieved this season is there in black and white and will be forever more. They don’t need a guard of honour to be reminded of what they have done.”

Bitter Hartson

The pundit’s suggestion is, quite frankly, laughable.

A guard of honour is only right given we have absolutely dominated this season and still remain unbeaten.

More to the point, this is our first title in ten years, and so much hard work has gone into this victory.

It is only right if Celtic – along with each of our remaining opponents – offer us a guard of honour.

If they have any dignity left they will do it.

Hartson is really showing his true colours with this stupid assertion, and while it is a shame that our rivals are so bitter, it is also rather hilarious.

Hopefully, we can continue our success to rub salt in the wounds – a journey to the latter stages of the Europa League would do that.

Watching Scott Brown and co. clap us onto the pitch would also be a sweet outcome after so many years of hurt.
