Jim White baffled as Rangers fan makes Gerrard-Liverpool claim
Jim White cannot get his head around a Rangers fan claiming that Steven Gerrard would be carried to Liverpool if they came calling for the Ibrox boss.
Gerrard has taken fewer than three years to win Rangers’ first Premiership title since 2010/11 and due to his links to Liverpool, there has been obvious speculation linking him with a future job at Anfield.
Recently, the Mirror has claimed that Liverpool chiefs are growing increasingly concerned about Jurgen Klopp wanting to take over as the Germany manager if Joachim Low leaves the national team. Gerrard is reportedly a contender to replace the Premier League and Champions League-winning manager.
On Monday, talkSPORT welcomed a Rangers fan called John to speak to host White.
However, he unexpectedly claimed that fans would roundly accept the Rangers manager’s exit if he was to take over at Anfield.
Speaking on talkSPORT, the caller said: “Steven Gerrard will be carried, shoulder high, from Glasgow to Liverpool. If Steven Gerrard says he wants to go to Liverpool tomorrow, I can assure you, every Rangers supporter would carry him down there. Not because they want him to go but because they know what he is. He’s a legend, he’s a Liverpool man and that is his ultimate ambition.”
White replied by saying: “Why would you do that then, John? Because Gerrard played a major part in Rangers stopping Celtic doing 10.”
The caller replied: “100 per cent.”
White was visibly baffled by the caller’s claim, as shown on talkSPORT’s official YouTube channel.
Don’t even want to think about it
Gerrard managing Liverpool is an inevitability in the future and pretty much every Rangers fan accepts that.
But we won’t accept it if it happens this year.
Gerrard has unfinished business with Rangers, even though he’s led the club to it’s first title since 2012’s administration.
Ahead of us is campaign in the Champions League, in which we’ll enter at the third qualifying round, most likely as a seeded team in the champions path.
If we were in that pot this season, we’d have been drawn against teams like Molde, Ferencvaros and Belarus’ Dynamo Brest.
After that, there’s one more round so a spot in the Champions League group stages is possible for Rangers and Gerrard.
There’s also going to be questions raised about whether Gerrard can defend his title and if he can win any of the cups that have so far eluded the Gers on their return to the top-flight.
Klopp’s struggling at Liverpool but it’s unlikely he’ll leave yet due to how big a job he did last season and the season before.
But if Low walks from Germany in the summer if they struggle in the Euros, there could be an issue.
