Rangers icon Terry Butcher claims Steven Gerrard will rank his league title win with Rangers alongside his achievements at Liverpool as a player.
Rangers won the Scottish Premiership on Sunday as Celtic dropped points against Dundee United following the Gers’ triumph over St Mirren 24 hours earlier.
Gerrard won the Champions League as Liverpool captain and Butcher insists the Gers boss will hold his first league title as manager in the same regard as his European success as a player.
“He’s won Champions Leagues, FA Cups, we’ve all seen some of the goals he’s scored, but this will be one of his biggest and best achievements,” Butcher told Sky Sports News.
“It’s a huge achievement. For him, he’ll remember this forever. He’ll be remembered forever, this is one of the greatest things he’ll ever do in football.
“As time goes on, he’ll see that’s the case.”
There is so much emotion behind this title win, it’s monumental and Gerrard will know just how important it is for him personally and for Rangers Football Club.
His achievements at Liverpool will always hold a special place in his heart as a boyhood Reds fan but if this is the start of a long managerial career then this league win will be a marker.
Your first trophy as a player or a manager is always going to be special and Gerrard will know the impact of this win as he watches the joyous scenes on the streets of Glasgow tonight.
Of course, there is still a job to do this season as our campaign is far from over and attention must quickly turn to our Europa League games against Slavia Prague.
But once the dust settles and our boss has his feet up over the summer he might start to realise how big this win is for us all.
Hopefully he wins a few more trophies with us so there is even more competition for what his best career achievement is.
