Michael Stewart defends John Beaton in Rangers incident v Livingston

Alfredo Morelos was booked for a dive when he was fouled, Steven Gerrard was sent off for demonstrating with referee John Beaton and Rangers moved within four points of the title with a 1-0 win against Livingston at Almondvale at Wednesday night. Wow.

It's widely accepted that Morelos was brought down by Livi goalkeeper Max Stryjek in the first half of the match at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

Beaton booked Morelos despite clear contact from Stryjek and even pundits who are heavily weighted against Rangers - like ex-Celtic man Andy Walker - thought it was a penalty.

Michael Stewart claims the Gers should have been awarded a spot-kick too. But he couldn't help himself from making a senseless remark about the incident in the process.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene during the match, Stewart said he'd watched the incident over and that it should have been a penalty.

But he still found it in himself to defend Beaton.

What on earth?

How can Stewart at one point say it was a penalty, but then defend Beaton's decision at the same time?

Is he suggesting that Beaton fell into the trap of considering Morelos' 'history' by making the decision?

Is he suggesting that he can understand why Beaton didn't see the clear contact on Morelos that brought him down?

If so, that's idiotic because we could see in real time that there was contact.

Morelos didn't even bother putting up a fight because the campaign against him is absolutely riciculous now.

Anyhow. He'll be the one holding up the Premiership trophy very soon and make all the haters and doubters eat their words.

In other Rangers news, this Gers star has featured in a new Pespi advert alongside Lionel Messi.
