Si Ferry claims Steven Gerrard enjoyed some luck to change Rangers fortunes
Rangers have enjoyed a lot of success this year but Si Ferry thinks things could have been a lot different if the previous season was not cut short.
The Gers were on a dreadful run of just three wins in eight games when the 2019/20 campaign was called off.
Ferry argues Gerrard was under pressure at that point and could have even lost his job.
He told The Go Radio Football Show, (27/2, 14:50), “A bit of luck as well because the season stopped, Rangers were in freefall before that.
“If the season had went on and they kept losing games and that gap had got bigger, Steven Gerrard may have been out of a job.
“It just shows you need that wee bit of luck in management as well, he’s taken full advantage of that, he’s went away and looked at where they went wrong.
“He’s come back and Rangers have been a totally different team to that one that got beat off Hamilton.”
Huge summer
Stevie G deserves a huge amount of credit for the work he did over the summer.
He picked the squad up after a disappointing end to the previous campaign – at one point we looked like serious contenders for the title.
The Gers boss made shrewd additions like Kemar Roofe and Leon Balogun and addressed our biggest weaknesses.
Our defence has been transformed and we have performed brilliantly to concede just nine goals in 30 games this term.
It is unlikely that those at the top ever questioned Gerrard’s suitability for the job.
There were clear signs that we were getting better, both in the Europa League and in terms of challenging Celtic’s dominance.
Regardless, their patience has certainly paid off as we are now just three games away from clinching number 55.
We are also doing well once again in Europe, with Stevie G now boasting more wins than any other Rangers manager on the continent.
