Rangers are eyeing a deal for Wigan’s Kyle Joseph and signing the striker could prove a very shrewd move.
The English League One side have been in dire form this year but Joseph has been a shining light.
He is only 19 but has five goals and one assist from 12 league starts.
His goals include a winner at Sunderland and a hat-trick in a 4-3 win over Burton – that shows he scores important goals, which is exactly what Rangers need.
Joseph provides energy up-front and he always looks to make things happen.
A return of 2.1 shots and 1.3 dribbles per game (WhoScored) shows he is keen to put the opposition on the backfoot.
He may be raw and need a lot of development but Auchenowie is the ideal place to nurture his talent.
The forward reminds us of the deal with struck for Joe Aribo – Joseph could also join on a free transfer from an EFL club with his current deal expiring in the summer.
Joseph is even younger than Aribo was when he joined and that means Gerrard could have more of an influence in terms of sculpting his game.
Learning from Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe could also be huge for the youngster.
However, there is interest from elsewhere – The Mirror report Arsenal and Celtic will rival us for Joseph’s signature.
That shows his class but his Scottish roots means he may be inclined to move back north, and considering we are now the dominant force in the SPFL we hold the most appeal.
We are in a stable position and a club on the up, and Stevie G is a manager many players would like to play for.
Adding Joseph on a free means there is minimal risk in bringing him in yet we could reap big rewards, both on and off the pitch.
He could contribute to the team from next season and if he impresses there is potential for a big re-sale value.
That has happened with Aribo, with one journalist suggesting he is already worth a lot of money.
