Patterson teams up with Adidas in rollercoaster month at Rangers
Nathan Patterson has struck a commercial deal with Adidas in what has been a rollercoaster of a month for the young Rangers right-back.
Earlier this month, the 19-year-old was named as one of five Gers players who broke COVID protocol by reportedly attending a house party.
Despite calls for him and his five team-mates to never play for the club again, Patterson was named on Steven Gerrard’s bench ahead of the clash against Antwerp in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Patterson came on at half-time to replace Leon Balogun at right-back with James Tavernier and managed to score within 17 seconds.
Rangers won the tie and play Slavia Prague in the Europa League’s last-16 with Patterson playing a key role in the second leg.
He took to his personal Instagram account on Friday to react to what has been a turbulent time in his budding Ibrox career, adding that he’s also teamed up with sportswear giants Adidas.
“What a week in football. Thanks to Rangers for sticking by me and now excited to have Adidas on my side. Let’s go.”
Adidas London’s official account then replied: “Welcome to the team, Nathan.”
Huge story within a massive story
It’s been some season at Ibrox.
Gerrard’s men have been tremendous, staying unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership to the point they can confirm their 55th title in their next three matches and reaching the last 16 of the Europa League.
It’s been a season full of positives but there have been a couple of negatives that probably take up about one or two per cent of the entire campaign.
Those negatives have mainly been the seven players who’ve broken COVID protocol this season, and Patterson is among them.
He’s only just become available again after serving a period in self-isolation so there were question marks about whether he should have been involved at all versus Antwerp on Thursday.
However, his goal sparked a superb win for the Gers as the youngster went from zero to hero in the space of an hour or so.
Did he deserve the chance? Probably not. But Gerrard has to think about how he can punish the other six players now when one of them was allowed the chance to shine despite his off-pitch antics.
