Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos ranks above several Premier League stars in Uefa’s FEDEX Europa League Performance Zone.
This is a metric that determines who the best players are in the Europa League at the moment.
The UEFA website describes the system as, “The FedEx Performance Zone runs official player statistics through a specially designed algorithm to create rankings based on performances.”
On these ranking, Morelos currently sits seventh after his excellent performance against Royal Antwerp on Thursday.
This puts the Colombian above Manchester United pair Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as well as above the in-form Leicester forward Harvey Barnes.
Though Morelos has been impressive this season he has some way to go to match Red Devils talisman Bruno Fernandes who currently occupies top spot.
The system takes into account domestic statistics as well so his goal and assist against Dundee United at the weekend will have also boosted his ranking.
After Thursday’s win over Antwerp, there is every chance that Morelos may have the chance to test himself against these Manchester United players in real life with the Europa League draw set for Friday lunchtime.
This ranking system may not be the most reliable metric of analysing performances but there is no denying Morelos’ red hot form.
He has two goals and seven assists in his last three games in all competitions which shows how important he can be to Rangers when fully fit.
Goals eluded the Colombian at the start of the season though he seems to have regained his killer instinct.
As we progress through the Europa League, Morelos could be a key player as if he isn’t scoring he still has the ability to cut open a defence with his passing and contribute to a win.
